The Writer Speaks: William Goldman
William Goldman had quite an affect on me as a fledgling screenwriter 25 years ago. For film mad me, as for so many film nuts and aspiring screenwriters, his book 'Adventures in the Screen Trade' became a kind of bible. But Goldman the human? I feel a certain reverence. Who didn't love Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? The film is a superb piece of screenplay story and structure. (FYI: I agree with Goldman that screenplays are structure - they just happen to be built of a screenwriter's words).
Here then is an interview with Mr Goldman. Let's remember that he was a killer screenwriter per se, with excellent storytelling instincts that he manifested successfully via the craft of screenwriting.
Because screenwriting is a craft. Don't forget that.
Over to the man....
